HEFB-20 Virtual Hackathon

What is a hackathon?

A hackathon is a design sprint-like event often when various stakeholders work together intensively on a project to solve challenges or develop new products.

HEFB-20 Virtual Hackathon

This hackathon brings together thought leaders from various industries to identify and hack new solutions to address cross-industry COVID-19 related challenges. Industries may include, but are not limited to, Hospitality, Events, Healthcare, Healthcare Design, Medical Facility, Insurance, and Technology.

As our social distancing efforts continue to “flatten the curve” and the first wave of the virus is thought to have peaked in many locations, new challenges continue to emerge. With the threat of a second wave in the fall, now is the time to take a holistic approach to addressing these challenges.

Use of Alternative Medical Care Facilities in the COVID-19 Pandemic

We recommend that all cities and towns immediately start working rapidly to establish and make plans for staffing ACFs. Time is of the essence, because constructing and outfitting a facility cannot happen overnight. Some towns may wish to jointly establish ACFs, or states may establish regional facilities. COVID-19 epidemiology models forecast that hospitals across the United States may be stretched to their limits, if not completely overwhelmed. Read more here.

Alternate Care Sites: Infection Prevention and Control Considerations for Alternate Care Sites

Establishing alternate care sites will help address surge in the response to COVID-19. An increase in the number of patients seeking medical care might require jurisdictions to establish alternate care sites (ACS) where patients with COVID-19 can receive medical care for the duration of their isolation period. These are typically established in non-traditional environments, such as converted hotels or mobile field medical units. Read more here.

The Problem

Unemployment

4.6 million jobs in hospitality, travel, and events will be lost.

Inundated Hospitals

America will soon hit the tipping point of the stress capacity of its health systems. This will drastically increase the death rate as hospitals run out of beds.

Closed Hotels

Hundreds of hotels have closed and some may never re-open.

The Solution

Industries come together to transition into a need-based economy. We are at war against a virus and have the opportunity to redirect affected industries towards a critical mission to solve immediate problems for both the healthcare system and the economy.

Hospitality + Events

Sourcing hotels to provide space, activating the events production industry to outfit them to hospital spec + code, event professionals & event tech  for data and logistics.

Production + Manufacturing

Pivoting manufacturing to make Personal Protective Equipment & Infrastructure Materials +  connecting supply chain to hospitals and  medical facilities in need.

Technology

Outfitting repurposed hospital/hotels with the necessary technology to manage patient check-in and management

Our Mission

Increase the number of available hospital beds

Utilize and support closed hotels

Employ members of the hospitality and events industry that are out of work

SAVE LIVES!
